Today I installed SharePoint 2016 in one of my VM environment. After installation I could see folders named 14, 15 and 16 are available inside Web Server Extensions folder along with the folder named wpresources. Although it has a folder named 16, still the urls points to 15 layouts in SharePoint 2016 preview
BTW, from the UI perspective it’s hard to differentiate between SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint 2016, everything looks like same.
Web Server Extensions
Is it 15 Layouts or 16 Layouts ?
ASMX services are still there. It’s not been deprecated yet as it was announced during the release of SP 2013
Bunch of .asmx files
Installation
Although SQL Server 2016 Preview is supported, I opted for SQL Server 2014 with SP 1 as my database server for SharePoint 2016. Installation and configuration was quick and fast. But it took more than 10 mins to create the first web application and site collection although the VM had 16 GB of RAM. Installation steps are similar to SharePoint 2013 except for option to select server role
